It's a rainy Monday morning here in Bengaluru. I sit staring at my laptop screen, scrolling through random slack messages that have been sent in tens of groups. Some kudos messages, some bugs being reported, some action items being assigned. The usual stuff you know.
I look at my calendar and its almost empty for the whole week except for a staff meeting scheduled for Thursday morning. The past year has been quite quiet with very few Zoom meetings. I being an individual contributor, do not have too many meetings anyway. But this week, my calendar looks uncannily deserted.
There are some easy coding/operations work that I have to complete, but that won't consume the whole week. Looking at an empty calendar gives me an eerie feeling as if nothing is happening in the company, nobody has any business with me and makes me question do I need to look for another job maybe.
Then I go back and check Slack. Nobody has tagged me in any thread or sent me any DM. That adds to my anxiety. Should I be worried? Am I no longer required in this company? Or is this just how people behave in summer? Maybe everyone is just chilling and relaxing a bit since the focal season got over just a month ago. Yeah, maybe I should also chill now before the madness starts again with a brand new project or escalations from an old project.
So, I decided to take a chill pill and write this blog post instead of worrying about why no one at work has missed me in any meeting this week. Maybe they will come back next week or the week after. Who knows! Maybe they won't. In any case, I will keep you posted about it.
Until then...Cheers!
